Voting begins in Kericho and Malindi by-elections

The much awaited by election in Malindi and Kericho parliamentary and senatorial polls respectively is under way. The voting kicked off at 6am in both counties today amid a low turnout of voters in the morning hours.

Incidents of voter bribery have been reported as well with a clip circulating online that shows Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu being accused of bribing voters. Another Jubilee MP Peter Gitau was also arrested and released on bond for allegedly bribing voters.

In the Kericho, Jubilee Alliance Party’s Aaron Cheruiyot and KANU’s Paul Arap Sang are the front runners in the senatorial race, has been drawn out as a supremacy battle between Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

In Malindi, ODM’s Willy Mtengo is facing off Jubilee Alliance Party’s Philip Charo.

The by elections came about after president Uhuru Kenyatta appointed the former office holders (MP Dan Kazungu and Charles Keter) to his cabinet in the recent reshuffle.
