URP Party Divorcing Jubilee?

Rift Valley politicians allied to the Deputy President’s United Republican Party (URP) wing of the Jubilee party have written to the registrar of political parties seeking to register a new party.

The politicians, allegedly led by Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago (chairman) are keen on registering a new party called The United Party of Kenya and have already submitted the party symbol to the registrar for approval.

The Jubilee Party was formed in September 2016 in the run-up to the 2017 General Elections after 13 political parties dissolved and formed the “mighty” political outfit, headed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

The 13 parties included President Kenyatta’s The National Alliance (TNA), William Ruto’s URP, National Rainbow Coalition (NARC), Ford People, the Republican Congress Party (RC), Tip Tip, the United Party of Kenya (UPK), the Grand National Unity (GNU), Mr Kiraitu Murungi’s Alliance Party of Kenya and Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka’s New Ford-Kenya.
