#TwoYearsOfSuccess: Dennis Itumbi’s hashtag rubs Kenyans the wrong way and is considered a PR stunt attempt at re-writing history.
Dennis Itumbi, the Director of Digital Communication in the Office of the President is on the receiving end of the wrath of Kenyans on twitter (KOT) after he started a trending topic yesterday; #TwoYearsOfSuccess, in an effort to water down the hash tag; #2yearsofhopelessness, which Kenyans had started in order to air their despair with the government.
The #TwoYearsOfSuccess hashtag rubbed Kenyans the wrong way because of the timing as the publicity stunt comes in the middle of a security crisis following the terror attack at the Garissa university college.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto marked their two years in power yesterday and The Two Years Of Success hype aims to showcase the successes of the Jubilee government.
Below are some of the reactions from KOT;
Paul Achar: “Strategic Communication would demand this hashtag #2YearsOfSuccess not be on this week. The mood in the country must be considered!”
Carol Musyoka: “Dear @NDOCKenya …there’s an ongoing disaster you need to manage…….it’s called the #2YearsOfSuccess campaign. It’s a train smash!”
Joe Njenga: “#2YearsOfSuccess and we are still trying hard to see RESULTS amid the HEAVY CLOUD of cheap PR that represent failure.”
Stephen Musyoka : “We are still mourning and you start this GoK TT #2YearsOfSuccess? #KuweniSerious”
XtianDela : “Hahahaha…ati #2YearsOfSuccess…For real?!?! What about Letting Kenyans decide how you’ve performed!”
LarryMadowo.co.ke: “@OleItumbi dude, get off Twitter for a bit. This level of smug is cruel”
