Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matang’i has dissolved the Siaya county education board over the controversial Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) mock papers for class 8 pupils in the county.

“The examination papers are contrary to government’s current education policies,” Matiang’i said.

The mock examination papers, which were printed with a portrait of Governor Siaya Governor Cornell Rasanga, provoked a public outcry yesterday with the public calling the act “immoral”.

The county Executive Committee member for Education, Pamela Akelo, defended the move saying that it was meant to cushion parents from exploitation by school heads who may have ended up charging parents exam fees, adding that the image of the Rasanga will also make the pupils feel closer to the governor.

The CS has also cancelled the mock papers.

The county government has allocated Sh1.7 million for this year’s primary school mocks.
