Senator Muthama accused of imprisoning wife in their home. After she invited journalists in to document it, they were detained also.
Machakos Senator, Johnstone Muthama, is making headlines again for all the wrong reasons, after details emerge that he allegedly had his wife and journalists locked up at his home.
The senator’s ex-wife, Agnes Kavindu Muthama, had invited journalists and human rights activists to their home to expose Muthama for the in-humane treatment he was according her.
Kavindu claims that Muthama has taken her through hell and back for the past one month, that he is abusive and has even brought home another young woman as his wife.
She said that she had obtained a court order barring Muthama from evicting her from the house where she has lived for the past 18 years, but the senator responded by making life unbearable for her.
Kavindu alleges that she has stayed without electricity or water in her house for a whole month and has been forced to fetch drinking and bathing water from a swimming pool in the compound, adding that Muthama has given orders for her to be locked inside the house.
The activists, who included Center for Rights Education and Awareness director Anne Njogu and lawyer Judy Thongori, together with 11 journalist from various media houses, were detained at the compound of the senator for about three hours after workers locked up the gates on their arrival.
Kavindu blames her plight on her son Moses Nduya who is said to be the one who had issued the orders to have the journalist locked up. She said that doors and furniture to her house were removed and transferred to Nduya’s house.
The senator is yet to respond to the allegations but as the popular saying goes; hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
