Ngilu to enter Kitui Governor race for 2017. It is as yet ‘too early to tell’ on which coalition of parties she will compete for.
NARC leader and former lands CS Charity Ngilu has announced that she will be running for governor in the gubernatorial race in Kitui county in the 2017 general elections.
Ngilu, who was speaking during an interview on Citizen TV yesterday, however did not disclose which coalition she would join, saying that it was “too early to tell”.
She will be facing off the incumbent Governor Julius Malombe and Senator David Musila among others.
Ngilu, popularly referred to as “mama rainbow” was first elected MP for Kitui Central in 1992 and she in 1997, she together with the late Wangari Mathari made history when they became the first female presidential aspirants in Kenya’s political history.
The Suspended CS is facing charges of obstructing investigations into fraudulent transactions in her ministry.
The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) had accused Mrs Ngilu of obstructing or hindering the collection of evidence in relation to the Karen land saga by directing Ministry of Lands officials not to release documents to its investigators or even record any statements regarding the matter.
