Moi was Kenya’s second president and ruled the country for 24 years from 1978. He was fondly christened “Nyayo”.
Retired president Daniel Torotich Arap Moi (96) has died.
His passing was announced on Tuesday morning by President Uhuru Kenyatta who has sent his condolences to the family.
Moi’s health has been deteriorating and has been in and out of hospital for the past one year. Mzee was recently admitted at the Nairobi hospital over “breathing problems”.
