President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ally and the vice chairman of the Jubilee Party, David Murathe, resigned following the anti-Ruto 2022 political slurs.

Murathe, who had made controversial remarks against Deputy president William Ruto a week ago against his 2022 state house bid, saying  that the DP had a joint ticket with the President in 2013 and 2017 and should therefore not run for president in 2022.

He was speaking at Rarieda during the burial of Kefa Oduor, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju’s brother.

He further stated that his side will be seeking the Supreme Court’s advisory opinion on the matter ahead of the election.

“Section 148 of the Constitution says nobody can run for Deputy President for more than two terms. And why does it say that? Because Section 142 also says nobody can run for President for more than two terms, and this presidency is a pair. If for whatever reason the president is not able to carry out his functions, who becomes the president?

Murathe said his resignation was due to a conflict of interest even though its believed that president Uhuru Kenyatta imposed the resignation as a way of restoring unity in the  ruling jubilee party.

“I find that it is no longer tenable to stay on as the party vice chairman, given that I will have to sit in the same National Executive Council with a man I am taking to court to block from running for president,” Mr Murathe said.
