Kisumu residents cry foul at handling of Raila Odinga in EACC investigation. He was wanted in connection with a graft investigation.
Kisumu residents have today staged demonstrations in protest of what they term as harassment of opposition leader Raila Odinga, alias, Baba by the government.
The residents, who braved a rainy morning in the demonstrations that kicked off from Kondele to Oginga Odinga streets in the town’s Central Business District, condemned the government for intimidating leaders who blow whistle on corruption scandals.
Raila has remained adamant about appearing before The Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) over his claims on the euro bond graft and last week the anti-graft body threatened to arrest the Cord Leader if he failed to honour the summons today.
EACC Chief Executive Officer Halakhe Waqo has however stated earlier today that it won’t be arresting Raila or force him to record a statement over his claims since he has already furnished the commission with documents.
Waqo says through the statement, Odinga has already complied with the commission’s requirements.
Waqo says Odinga’s concerns are based on two Treasury documents: Quarterly Economic Budget Review for 4th Quarter of 2014 /2015 and Budget Review Outlook Paper.
“Raila Odinga has provided the commission with the documents a day after we issued summons for his appearance,” Waqo said.
