Kenya is also seeking to bid to host the Mobile World Congress, which is one of the o largest technology shows next year.
Kenya will be hosting the 2024 Transform Africa Summit in August.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Barcelona Spain by Smart Africa during the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC), attended by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo. Smart Africa is the coordinating Secretariat for ICT programmes and activities for the African continent.
ICT power house
CS Owalo said the victory underscores Kenya’s global standing as an ICT powerhouse and a regional leader in driving transformative impact and advancing socio-economic development.
“This win is a testament to the confidence that Smart Africa Alliance places in Kenya and its leadership. It solidifies our nation’s tradition as a home for high-profile international conferences, an ICT investment destination of choice, and highlights Kenya’s commitment to advancing the Digital Agenda in Africa,” Owalo said in his acceptance speech.
Transform Africa Summit, organized annually by the Smart Africa Alliance, is the foremost continental forum uniting global ICT leaders drawn from government, businesses and international organizations.
Kenya initiated the bid for organizing the annual summit in November last year through the Communication Authority (CA).
The Mobile World Congress
The Mobile World Congress kicked off on Monday, February 26. CS Owal, who was a guest speaker at the event also launched Kenya’s digitalization study, done in collaboration with GSMA.
Kenya is also seeking to bid to host the Mobile World Congress, which is one of the o largest technology shows next year.
“During this event, I will lead the Kenyan delegation to meet with the GSMA Events team to cement Kenya’s bid to host the GSMA Mobile World Congress –Africa 2025,” Owalo said.
