The leader of the coastal secessionist group the Mombasa Republic Council (MRC), Omar Mwamnuadzi, was arrested following a gun battle in Kwale. During the shoot out two of Mwamnuadzi’s bodyguards were shot dead

Following the battle, 38 other MRC supporters were arrested.

ASSISTANT CHIEF HACKED TO DEATH

Later the Kombani Assistant Chief, Salim Changu was hacked to death in Kwale by what was believed to have been an MRC-supporting mob.
