The Kenya African National Union (KANU) yesterday moved to the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal to stop the newly created Jubilee Party from using what it says is its party colours: red, black and green.

Through its lawyer, Ham Lagat, KANU wants the Registrar of Political Parties restrained from registering the Jubilee Party or any other party for that matter, which uses a combination of the three colours.

“It is in the interest of the voters that Jubilee is stopped from the use of Kanu colours during their campaigns to avoid confusion among its supporters, voters and the general public,” Mr Lagat said.

In the event a certificate has already been issued to the Jubilee Party, KANU wants it revoked.

Businessman Claims Ownership of “Tuko Pamoja” Slogan

Businessman, Jonathan Kinyanzwii, also moved to the High Court to have Jubilee stopped from using the slogan; Tuko Pamoja, which he says is his trademark.

Kinyanzwii says that he registered the slogan in 2011 even before the formation of the Jubilee coalition ahead of the 2013 general elections.

“I have tried raising the issue with key contact persons in the Jubilee party but they have ignored me,” said Kinyanzwii.

The Jubilee party, a merger of 13 political parties, which folded yesterday to make the new political outfit ahead of the 2017 general elections, will be launched tomorrow by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium.
