Former US Vice President Joe Biden has made his third bid at the US presidency and launched his 2020 presidential campaign.

“battle for the soul of America”

“The core values of this nation, our standing in the world, our very democracy, everything that has made America — America –is at stake. That’s why today I’m announcing my candidacy for President of the United States,” Joe Bidden said in his speech.

The six-term senator ran unsuccessfully twice for president in 1988 and 2008 before he became President Barack Obama’s deputy for two terms.

78-year-old Bidden joins a list of 19 other presidential hopefuls, who include Trump, who will be seeking re-election, Bernie Sanders, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris and John Kasich among others.

According to CNN, “the former vice president has led most early polls of potential Democratic contenders and has enjoyed high name identification and favorability ratings”.
