Fred Matiangi replaces deceased Nkaissery as Interior CS. Matiangi will be the acting Interior Cabinet Secretary until further notice.
Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, has been appointed as Acting Interior CS by President Uhuru Kenyatta following the sudden death of Joseph Nkaissery in the early hours of the morning.
President Kenyatta said: “There shall be no vacuum in securing our country. I have appointed Education CS Fred Matiangi as the Acting CS for security to ensure there is no vacuum”.
Meanwhile the President has also cancelled his Turkana political rally scheduled for today following the death of Nkaissery.
In a live broadcast to the nation President Kenyatta said: “We were discussing issues as late as 9:30 pm last night on peace and security of this country among Kenya’s preparedness for Junior Athletics which commences in a few days”.
“I send my condolences to his wife and children, his friends and the Maa community. I call on Kenyans to uphold peace in this difficult time. More details will be given on this untimely death,” the President added.
Interior Secretary Joseph Nkaissery died overnight after being rushed to hospital. He was 67 years old.
Mr Nkaissery was rushed to Karen Hospital after apparently collapsing at home but died at 4am this morning. The cause of his death is as yet not known.
His death comes exactly one month before Kenya’s elections in which Joseph Nkaissery was to play a key role in organising security.
