Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji, has given a go-ahead for the prosecution of Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado in relation to embezzlement of Kshs. 73.4 million belonging to the county.

According to the DPP, Obado indirectly and in conflict of interest, received a benefit totalling to SH 73,474,376,70 from companies and businesses that traded with the Migori County government.

The companies in question are Misoft Ltd, Tarchdog Printers, Deltrack ICT Services, Seletrack Consultants, Mactebac Contractors, Joyush Business, Swyfcon Engineering, Atinus Services, Kajulu Business, Victorious Investments, Dolphus Softwares, Dankey Press and Pesulus Services.

“The audit trail of the money revealed that the companies wired a total, 38,949,376,90 to the governor’s children’s accounts,”.

The Governor’s children, who were investigated by EACC officers are Susan Scarlet, Jerry Zachary, Evelyn Adhiambo and Dan Achola Okoth. The money was reportedly used for the children’s upkeep and maintenance in Australia, Scotland and the United Kingdom.

According to the investigations, some of the money was used to buy two Toyota Land Cruiser V8s and that Sh34.5 million was used to buy a house in Loresho, Nairobi, whose beneficial owner is Evelyn Adhiambo Zachary.

Governor Okoth Obado is also facing murders charges in court over the brutal murder of Kisii University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.

DPP Noordin Haji also this week called for the prosecution of Masai Mara University Vice-Chancellor and four others over the misappropriation of over Kshs. 177 million belonging to the University.
