Rioting in Hardy: CO-OP university students protest police killing of a fellow student while in custody. Tempers are flaring.
The Kenya Forum has received reports of riots in Hardy, Karen on Ulshirika road orchestrated by students of the Co-operative university, who have taken to the streets to protest the death of a colleague.
The deceased, who has been identified as Tony Munguti, a 4th-year bachelor of commerce student is reported to have died on 16th, March 2017 at Hardy police station.
Prof Kamau Ngamau, the vice chancellor of the university has in a letter seen by the Kenya Forum appealed to the students to remain calm as police carry out investigations into the circumstances surrounding Munguti’s death.
“The police are carrying out investigations to find the probable cause of his untimely death. His body is lying at the city mortuary awaiting postmortem,” said the VC in the letter.
The circumstances following the deceased’s arrest are not yet clear.
