Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino was today arraigned at the Milimani law courts following derogatory statements made against President Uhuru Kenyatta over the weekend.
Babu Owino, who was arrested yesterday, has been charged with subversion, hurling insults to President Kenyatta and incitement to violence will be spending the second night at Kileleshwa police station as chief magistrate Francis Andayi considers his bail application.
The former student leader at the University of Nairobi while addressing NASA supporters during a campaign rally in Westlands, referred to president Uhuru as a “son of a dog”.
Babu, who was represented by his lawyers James Orengo and Otiende Amollo denied all the charges.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Nicholas Mutuko said that considering that Babu is facing three other cases, he’s likely to interfere with witnesses if released and maintained that he be denied bail until his trial is over.
Otiende Amollo said the prosecution’s opposition to bail is unlawful and malicious and is meant to ensure that their client misses eight consecutive sittings in parliament and therefore lose his seat.
