“This incredibly brave act, which is true to the values of solidarity of our Republic, must open the doors of our national community to him.”
22 year old Mamoudou Gassama, a Malian migrant in France, has been granted citizenship by the French government for his heroic act that saved a toddler from falling off the balcony of a four storey building.
An amateur video captured by one of the curious onlookers, gathered outside an apartment block in the French capital, as they watched helplessly as a toddler dangled over a balcony has gone viral across the world, making Mamoudou Gassama’s an overnight sensation for his heroic act.
Gassama, in a spider man-like fashion, is seen springing into action, climbing the balconies from the lower floors all the way up to the fourth floor, where the baby was hanging, and in a record 30 seconds grabs the toddler to safety to a wide applause from the onlookers.
“This incredibly brave act, which is true to the values of solidarity of our Republic, must open the doors of our national community to him.” France spokesman Benjamin Griveaux tweeted.
French President Emmanuel Macron hosted Mamoudou Gassama at the presidential palace and congratulated him for his heroic act.
Macron also feted Gassama a medal for bravery and also proposed that he joins the French fire service.
Gassama has only been in France for 8 months.
