“Let Kaguta Museveni and WilliamsRuto come clean on the safety and whereabouts of Besigye,” Karua.
Dr. Kizza Besigye, a prominent Ugandan opposition leader, was reported abducted while on a visit in Nairobi, Kenya.
His wife, Winnie Byanyima, is calling on the government of Uganda to release her husband, who she says was abducted last Saturday in Nairobi, while attending Martha Karua’s book launch.
Mrs Besigye went ahead to allege that her husband is being detailed in a military jail in Uganda.
Dr. Kizza Besigye has been a victim of rampant abductions and house arrests occasioned by President Yoweri Museveni’s government. This time, he was reportedly abducted in Nairobi where he was attending Martha Karua’s book launch.
Martha Karua has asked presidents Museveni and Ruto to come clean on Besigye’s whereabouts.
“Let Kaguta Museveni and William Ruto come clean on the safety and whereabouts of Besigye,” Karua.
The Daily Monitor reports that Besigye is currently being held at Makindye military barracks in Kampala, since Sunday and is expected to be presented in a court-martial today.
Bobi Wine accuses Kenya of flaunting extradition laws
Opposition leader Bobi Wine, has also condemned Bisigye’s abduction, and asked the government of Kenya to stop aiding that of Uganda in violating the law.
According to Bobi Wine, 36 other activists were abducted from Nairobi a few months ago and send back to Uganda, which he calls an “utter violation of the law”.
“As we call for his immediate release, we condemn this blatant abuse of the law by the regime here in Uganda, and sadly the authorities in Kenya. We are back to the dark days when Ugandans were casually picked from the streets of Nairobi and returned to Uganda to be tortured, jailed and others executed.
The abduction of Ugandan citizens from Kenya and handing them over to the regime in Uganda without following extradition laws must be condemned by all people of good conscience!”
The accusations paint president Ruto, who is considered a close political ally of Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni in bad light, as Kenyans on twitter join their Ugandan counterparts in condemning the abductions and calling for Besigye’s release under hashtags.
