GOAT Eliud Kipchoge

Celebrated World champion Eliud Kipchoge won the 2023 Berlin Mathon on Sunday and set a new record.

The world record holder clocked 2:02:42 to retain his title, extending his Berlin Marathon wins to a record five; 2015, 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2023 while smashing the world record twice in 2018 and 2022. Kipchoge also surpassed legendary Haile Gebrselassie’s record of four titles at the Berlin capital.

“To be the first one to win the Berlin Marathon five times is something that I could only dream of. We have so much history together whereby I cannot put into words the feeling I get when running these streets. Thank you to all the fans out on the course today,”Eliud Kipchoge said in a tweet

The 2023 Berlin Marathon was the 49th edition of the annual marathon race in Berlin, held on Sunday, 24 September 2023.

Kenya’s Vincent Kipkemboi, who was making a debut at the Berlin marathon came in second in 2:03:13 as Ethiopian Tadese Takele, another debutant settled for third in 2:03:24.

Ethippia’s Tigts Assefa breaks the women world records in Berlin

In the women’s marathon, Brigid Kosgei’s World Record (2:13:04) at the Chicago Marathon was smashed by Assefa Tigst of Ethiopia who did 2:11:52 to win the women’s #BerlinMarathon2023.

Kenya’s Sheila Chepkirui held on to second place in 2:17:49, while Tanzania’s Magdalena Shauri made a remarkable breakthrough to take third place in 2:18:41, setting a huge national record.
