Two suspects have today been charged with the attempted murder of former Garissa Finance Minister Idris Mukhtar and his lawyer Charles Kanjama.
Mohammed Hussein Aden and Juliet Charity Njoki, who denied the charges, are accused of together with others not in court shooting Idris Mukhtar on August 19 in Kilileshwa.
The prosecution has objected to the release of the two on bail on grounds that they pose danger to Idris, who is still fighting for his life in ICU. They also argued that their co-conspirators are yet to be arrested and therefore likely to interfere with investigations.
Idris Aden Mukhtar was shot in the head at close range last Sunday and left for dead outside a hotel in Kileleshwa.
GOVERNOR ALI KORANE ARRESTED
Garissa Governor Ali Korane had also been arrested in connection the shooting of the ex-County Finance County Executive Idriss Mukhtar but was later released.
Idris Mukhtar had been sacked by the former Garissa administration and moved to court where he was awarded Sh50 million for wrongful sacking.
The attempted murder case against Idris took a new twist two weeks ago after a prime murder suspect, who reportedly pulled the trigger, was found dead in a cell at the Parklands police station.
According to the police, David Mwai Wanjiru aka Mwas committed suicide by hanging himself.
LAWYER CHARLES KANJAMA TARGETTED IN MURDER PLOT
It was also revealed that the assassin was also after Lawyer Charles Kanjama. The plan was to allegedly eliminate both the client and his lawyer.
