Three terror suspects found guilty of Garissa university attack

Three terror suspects that had been charged with planning the  2015 terror attack at Garissa University that left 148 students dead have been found guilty.

The three, Rashid Charles Mberesero (a Tanzanian), Hassan Edin and Mohamed Abdi alias Mohamed Ali Abikar were found guilty of having planned and executed the attack in coalition with Al-Shabaab operatives.

According to Magistrate Francis Andayi, the prosecution which relied on circumstantial evidence had presented a strong case against the three suspects.

The court finds that they knew the plot and were part of the attackers as they were arrested while traveling from Garissa two days after the attack,” he said

The sentencing hearing has been set on July 3.

GARISSA UNIVERSITY ATTACK MASTERMIND KILLED

In 2016, Somalia officials announced that the jihadist who was the ring leader behind the deadly Garissa University terror attack was killed by Somali troops in a Special Forces raid in Kismayo.

According to Somali’s officials, the terrorist identified as Mohamed Kuno, was among sixteen others, who were killed by Somali troops in a raid in Kismayo, southwestern Somalia.

“Sixteen armed men, four of them senior commanders including Mohamed Mohamud Ali known as Dulyadin were killed by the Somali commandos and the special forces of the Jubaland,” said Abdirashid Janan, Minister of State Security for Jubaland.

CUBA DOCTORS ABDUCTED IN MANDERA

In April, Al Shabaab militants abducted two Cuban doctors in Mandera County.

The doctors and an Italian aid worker, who was abducted in Kilifi County in November last year are yet to be found.

The 23-year old lady, who was a volunteer at Africa Milele Onlus, an NGO operating in the area.

KENYA WILL NOT PULL KDF OUT OF SOMALIA SOON

Al Shabaab has continued to launch a series of attacks in Kenya allegedly in protest of the Kenya Defense Forces invasion in Somali in 2011 under operation Linda Nchi but the government has stayed adamant that it will not pull KDF out of Somalia until the terror networks operating in the Horn of Africa region are completely removed.

The terror group is fighting to overthrow the internationally backed government in Mogadishu.
