Monica Kimani Murder Trial: Maribe Has Case to Answer

Jackie Maribe and boyfriend Jowie Irungu charged with murder of Monica Kimani

A judge presiding over the Monica Kimani murder has ruled that former TV anchor Jackie Maribe amd her ex-lover Jowie Irungu have a case to answer.

According to judge, the prosecution had adduced enough evidence against the two suspects.

Thie ruling comes after the last witness in the trial, Chief Investigating Officer Maxwell Otieno,  placed Jowie at the scene of the crime on the night Monica was reportedly murdered.

The witness told the court that Jowie and Maribe jointly murdered the 29-year-old Juba-based businesswoman in September 2018 and submitted exhibits to back the allegations.

Officer Otieno said that through forensic analysis exhibited in call data, Jowie was captured leaving the scene of the murder at 2335 hours; which was also corroborated by Jowie’s friend Jennings Orlando.

Monica Kimani was found dead in her bathtub with a slit throat in her apartment in Lamuria Gardens, Kilimani.

The court has heard testimonies from 35 witnesses in the Monica Kimani murder trial. The ruling on wether the two would be put on their defence or acquitted was to be done in February this year but was adjourned.

Assistant DPP Gikui Gichuhi had then told the court that all events leading to the murder and subsequent lies made by Maribe to the police show that she planned with Jowie to kill Monica.

Jowie and Maribe will now be put in defence.
