The Trial of five police officers charged with the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda & taxi driver Joseph Muiruri resumed on Monday at the Milimani High Court before Justice Jessie Lessit.

Willie Kimani, a human rights lawyer was killed in the line of duty in 2016 and his body, together with that of his client and taxi driver dumped in a river. Their bodies had physical evidence of torture.

POLICE OFFICERS CHARGED WITH WILLIE KIMANI MURDER

Three police officers were charged with the murder. They are AP officers Fredrick Leliman, Leonard Mwangi, Stephen Chebulet and Silvia Wanjiku and taxi driver Peter Kamau alias Brown.

When the murder trial kicked off in November 2016, lawyer Fred Ojiambo told the court that the Prosecution would provide “graphic and chilling details” to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Administration Police Officer Frederick Ole Leliman and his co-accused persons were involved in the murder of the deceased persons.

HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST CAROL MWATHA STILL MISSING

Human Rights defender, Caroline Mwatha, who is a founder member and caseworker with Dandora Community Social Justice Centre has been missing for the last five days.

The Dandora Community Social Justice Centre has been documenting cases of enforced disappearance and police extrajudicial killings, including the cold blood murder of six Dandora residents in October last year.

KENYA TOPS AFRICA IN EXTRA JUDICIAL KILLINGS

Kenya takes the lead in Africa on the number of extra-judicial killings perpetrated by the police according to the 2016/17 report by Amnesty International.

The report revealed that 122 cases of extrajudicial killings had been reported by October 2016, noting that the number could be higher since there is no official database of such cases.
