Major Peter Mwaura of Laikipia Airbase in Nanyuki is the prime suspect in the murder of his wife (Joyce Syombua, 31) and their two children (Shanice Maua, 10 and Prince Michael, 5).
The three had been reported missing on October 27 after spending two days at Major Mwaura’s home, only for their decomposing bodies to be discovered on Saturday evening buried in a shallow grave at Thingithu Estate in Nanyuki.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Military Police found the bodies after being led to the scene by the military man who is the main suspect in the suspected triple homicide.
The bodies were tied up using plastic ropes and stashed in three gunny bags inside the shallow grave.
The police said the bodies will have to undergo pathological tests to confirm that they are indeed those of Joyce Syombua and her children since they are severely decomposed.
According to Syombua’s mother, her daughter had a frosty relationship with the Ex-Husband and she had gone to court over child support.
The mother further stated that Syombua had won the child support case and Mugure was not happy with that, adding that she had even cautioned the daughter against traveling to Nanyuki with the children to see Mugure.
