Aisha Jumwa, who was recently nominated by Ruto as Public Service and Gender CS Nominee has two active cases in court; one on graft and the other a murder trial.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Nordin Haji, has withdrawn various high-level graft cases involving politicians aligned to President Ruto, which has elicited criticism from members of the public.
Some of the graft cases that the DPP has withdrawn include; a Sh400M graft case against former Kenya Power MD Ben Chumo, a 19M graft case against former Malindi Member of parliament Aisha Jumwa.Aisha Jumwa and Sh80m graft case against former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkula
Aisha Jumwa, who was recently nominated by Ruto as Public Service and Gender CS Nominee has two active cases in court; one on graft and the other a murder trial. She had told the court before elections to postpone the matters because ” her campaign schedule was busy and hectic”.
Jumwa is accused of killing 48-year-old Ngumbao Jola on October 15, last year, when chaos broke out during the Ganda Ward by-election. Several other people, including police officers, were injured in the chaos.
The politician and her bodyguard have since pleaded “not guilty” to the murder charges.
A section of Kenyans have taken to social media to critique President Ruto’s administration for “sanitizing thieves” and overturning the rule of law”.
Below are some of the comments shared on Twitter;
@abuga_makori: Do not blame DPP Noordin Haji on anything. He’s basically under siege. The administration of William Ruto is corruption friendly. He can’t do anything about it. All graft lords and murder suspects allied to UDA will be acquitted. Aisha Jumwa and Lenolkulal are just but the beginning.
@AmakanjiThomas: Dismus Barasa and Aisha Jumwa murder charges to be dropped soon as the @Kenyajudiciary is now fully captured. The families of the victims will never see justice.
@Honcalebamisi : What basis in law do we release some prisoners and leave out others,yet facing similar cases in law?
@MurithiMagiri: Is it a coincidence that the state is withdrawing specific charges within a short time frame? #DPP should come clean
