Tanzania’s civil aviation agency has lifted an earlier imposed suspension on Kenyan aviation operators following a decision by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) to revoke the 14-day mandatory quarantine for all passengers arriving from Tanzania.

Kenya had directed all passengers from Tanzania to be subjected to a compulsory 14-day quarantine, in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19 in the country, which prompted the Tanzanian authorities to retaliate by suspending all Kenyan aviation operators, including Kenya Airways from flying to Tanzania.

TCAA Director General Hamza Johari, through a statement, said that the removal of the mandatory requirement guarantees immediate resumption and restoration of flights for Kenya Airways, Fly 540, Safarilink Aviation, and Air Kenya Express.

“This is to confirm that the Government of Kenya removed the requirement of a 14-day mandatory requirement for all arriving passengers from the United Republic of Tanzania, in view of that and on a reciprocal basis, Tanzania has now lifted the suspension of all Kenyan operators,” he said.

Tanzania remained adamant about putting lockdowns and other measures adopted by countries in East Africa to control the spread of COVID-19, with President Magufuli maintaining that there was coronavirus was not a threat in the country, despite criticism that the government was covering up its COVID-19 caseload with its decision to not release figures.
