Chilly Season to Linger on for Three Months

The Metrological department has warned that the cold weather that has kicked in this month will run through the next three months.

The organisation’s Director Peter Ambenje in a statement warned that daytime temperatures will occasionally fall below 18°C, adding that the cold weather will be more heightened in the Central Highlands including Nairobi where cold and cloudy conditions will be accompanied by occasional light rains.

Motorists have been asked to be more careful as fog will cause poor visibility

“Temperatures over most parts of the country are expected to drop significantly as the season progresses. This will be more so in the Central Highlands including Nairobi where cool/cold and cloudy conditions with occasional light rains will occur more often,” Ambenje said.

The weather man also announced that the April-May rains that had hit the country have concluded.

“The March-April-May 2018 seasonal rainfall has ceased over most parts of the country except the Western region and the coastal strip. This has paved way for the usually cold June-July-August season,” he stated.

 Respiratory Diseases

The meteorological department has also warned of  the possibility of respiratory diseases.

“Cases of respiratory diseases like asthma, pneumonia and common cold (flu) are expected to be on the increase due to the expected cool or cold and chilly conditions. The general public, especially the young and elderly members of society, are advised to adopt warm dress code to avoid contracting such diseases,” the statement further states.
