Kenya recorded 24 deaths from COVID-19 on Tuesday, the highest single-day fatalities since the virus was confirmed in the country in March this year.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe made the announcement yesterday during the daily Covid-19 updates.

According to Kagwe, the coronavirus infections in the country have risen to 64,588 after 1,344 new cases were recorded since Monday.

“Sadly, 24 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the fatality to 1,154,” said Health Cabinet Mutahi Kagwe in his daily update that also announced.

The new cases reported on Tuesday were detected from 7,162 samples taken the last 24 hours.

The distribution of the Covid-19 cases by Counties is as follows; Nairobi 322, Kiambu 221, Mombasa 133, Laikipia 72, Uasin Gishu 66, Kericho 65, Nakuru 63, Kajiado 43, Kilifi 40, Kisumu 36, Kwale 32, Migori 32, Machakos 30, Baringo 20, Bomet 19, Nandi 16, Meru 13, Nyeri 12, Kisii 11, Embu 11, Mandera 11, Kakamega 8, Murang’a 8, Nyamira 8, Elgeyo Marakwet 5, Turkana 5, Nyandarua 4, Narok 4, Kirinyaga 4, Trans Nzoia 4, Tharaka Nithi 3 Vihiga 3, West Pokot 3, Bungoma 2, Taita Taveta 2, Wajir 2, Busia 2, Makueni 2, Samburu 2, Homabay 2, Siaya 2, and Kitui 1.

Kenya introduced new Covid-19 guidelines in November in the wake of a new surge in infections. These include a review of the curfew hours and clubs and restaurant opening hours.

The partial opening of schools that saw grade four, class eight, and form four students resume school in October is still operational but president Uhuru Kenyatta said the rest of the students will resume school in January 2021.
