Education CS Fred Matiang’i has pulled another first in announcing the results of the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) even earlier than in 2016.

The top candidate in KCPE scored 455 marks out of the usual 500 with the CS noting that there were no irregularities in this year’s exams as well. Matiang’i applauded the primary school teachers and school heads on their efforts to ensure that there were no irregularities on their end.

1,003,556 pupils sat for the primary school national exam and were invigilated by 117,251.

KCPE PERFORMANCE IMPROVES

Matiang’i further noted that there was a notable improvement in performance and especially in public schools with the second best candidate coming from a public school.

Last year, the top candidate scored 437 marks compared to this year’s 455 marks with the number of candidates who scored below 100 marks has reduced from 6747 last year to 2360 this year. The number has reduced by more than 4,000 compared to 2016.

High school placement will be done by 12th December and students who scored 400 marks and above will be placed in national schools. 9846 candidates scored above 400 marks.

Last year, Matiang’i caught everyone by surprise after he announced the 2016 KCPE results in early December.

The KCPE candidates will be able to access their results through SMS and online platforms by sending their index number to 22252 or on the KNEC website.
