Missing Juja MCA, Samuel Gitau, found alive but ‘frail’

The Kiambu Member of County Assembly (MCA) who had been reported missing for a week was found yesterday night in Kinungi area, along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, although details surrounding his re-surfacing are conflicting.

The first version of the story as reported by the Standard Digital News was that Samuel Gitau, was discovered by a farmer, Patrick Mugo, and other locals on the roadside. He looked frail and was staggering and Mugo took him to his house before alerting the police.

Gitau, who had been missing for a week, is reported to have briefly talked to the police before he was taken to the Aga Khan Hospital. He said that he had been in the boot of a car all along and only managed to free himself on Sunday night.

Another version of events suggests that the Juja MCA was abducted and managed to escape from his abductors by jumping from a moving vehicle along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway as members of the public moved in to rescue him.

The residents then alerted the area MCA Samuel Waithuki who rushed to the scene. Gitau was taken to a nearby house near the trading center as officials from Kiambu and police were informed.

Gitau went missing on March 8 from his home after he had allegedly gone to withdraw money from an ATM in Ruiru. Police said they are still investigating the matter to establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Kiambu governor William Kabogo, Deputy Speaker, the Leader of Majority and relatives were among tens of people who arrived to collect the MCA before taking him to hospital.

In May last year, Embu County Assembly Speaker Kariuki Mate also went missing under unclear circumstances from Utalii hotel in Nairobi. He was found dumped alive in Limuru  days later.
