Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has donated cooler boxers as a temporary measure to solve the morgue crisis at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital where 12 infants allegedly died after someone switched off power at the newborn unit.
Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has donated cooler boxers as a temporary measure to solve the morgue crisis at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital.
“As we plan for immediate improvement of maternal care at Pumwani Maternity Hospital, I have personally donated cooler boxes to be installed in a temporary mortuary at the facility,” Sonko said.
The infrastructure crisis at Pumwani was brought to the fore on Monday when the governor stormed the hospital allegedly, following a tip-off from the public and discovered 12 infant bodies wrapped in polythene bags and stashed in boxes.
The infants allegedly died after someone switched off power at the newborn unit.
Sonko suspended hospital superintendent & doctor-in-charge.
A section of medics took to the defense of their colleagues at Pumwani saying the situation was occasioned by lack of a morgue at the facility and went ahead to accuse Sonko of engaging in cheap publicity stunts for political mileage.
