Police officers charged in relation to gang-related murder in hospital. A patient in Mwingi County hospital was shot while recuperating.
Two policemen are facing murder charges following the heinous murder of a patient who had been admitted at Mwingi Level 4 hospital in Kitui County.
The patient, identified as Gandi Malia Musyemi (27) was seeking treatment from the hospital after he miraculously survived after being shot seven times by a “gang” which had abducted him.
The culprits later followed him to the hospital the same night, shooting him 17 times, an incident that shocked the nation and subsequently provoking a public outcry.
“The deceased had earlier recounted to police how he was hijacked at Majengo area in Kitui, blindfolded and taken to a thicket at Sosoma junction where he was shot in the head and left ribs,” a senior police officer said of the incident.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said that there is evidence implicating the two officers to the murder.
Extrajudicial killings have been on the rise in the country. The brutal murder of Gandi comes in the wake of the vicious murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda (bodaboda operator) and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri.
