Panic at Strathmore University as terror simulation results in death of student

Panic engulfed students and members of staff of Strathmore University following a terror safety drill a few hours ago.

Gunshots were fired during the drill causing students to run helter skelter, in what they assumed to be a terror attack. Some students dangerously sought refuge on the parapets as others ran to a nearby river.

Several people were injured during the chaos and one staff member, Esther Kidemba ( 33 ) lost her life allegedly after a perimeter wall she tried to climb over collapsed on her. She sucumbed to severe head injuries.

Members of public near the institution were not spared either as one of our sources confirmed that people were quickly chased out of T-mall and Magharibi place before they were shut down.

Rumours circulating on social media earlier were that terrorists had stormed the institution.

According to a statement by the university “the simulation was aimed at testing the preparedness of the university community and emergency team in the event of an attack.”
