Nairobi ranked as one of the worst cities to live in

Nairobi continues to rank at the bottom of most liveable cities in the globe if a new report by the Economist Intelligent Unit (EIU) is anything to go by.

The report, Global Liveability Ranking and Report August 2014, which assesses locations around the world that provide the best or the worst living conditions, ranks Nairobi in position 120 out of  the 140 cities.

The countries are rated based on stability; healthcare; culture and environment; education; and infrastructure.

The report aids companies to draft hardship allowances for employees also determine a city’s ability to attract and retain foreign investment, expatriates and tourists.

“Companies pay a premium (usually a percentage of a salary) to employees who move to cities where living conditions are particularly difficult and there is excessive physical hardship or a notably unhealthy environment,” reads the EIU report in part.

BEST CITIES TO LIVE IN

Australia’s Melbourne remains the most liveable location of the 140 cities surveyed, followed by the Austrian capital, Vienna, Vancouver and Toronto respectively.

Lagos and Tripoli are ranked among the bottom 10.
