KNUT Issues Teachers Strike Notice

The national union of teachers has threatened that teachers countrywide will go on a strike from January 2, 2019, due to what it calls a violation of labour rights by the Teacher Service Commission (TSC)

According to KNUT Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, TSC has “de-professionalized the teaching profession”. He among other grievances cited lack of promotion and the arbitrary transfer of school heads.

” TSC is wallowing in deep confusion and mishandling of teachers of the Republic of Kenya,” Sossion said in a press conference.

Sossion further states that the transfer of 3,000 school heads was occasioned by TSC CEO Nancy Macharia without the board’s approval.

“The transfers, Knut can authoritatively reveal, were effected without the approval of the TSC appointment board,” he said.

Knut also said faulted the commission for failure to fully implement the 2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

“Merry Christmas… but we can’t promise you that the new year will start well… parents should adjust their budgets very well because Christmas will be extended into the new year,” Sossion said.
