Google has today launched a Street View of 9,500 km of beautiful imagery of seven of Kenya’s cities that will be available on Google Maps and accessible to everyone around the world as it commemorates 11 years of being in the country in a new initiative dubbed Google for Kenya.

With Street View, Kenyans and tourists alike will now get a more immersive experience as they navigate and explore cities and destinations around the country. 

“We’ve launched Street View of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Nyeri and Malindi – now available on google maps and accessible to everyone, around the world,” Google announced.

Launched in 2007, Google Street View is a feature in Google Maps and Google Earth that provides panoramic views of streets in the world.

Kenya was home to the first ever google office in Africa. The #google4kenya initiative seeks to use digital access, content to drive tourism, jobs and the opportunity to position the destination

YouTube Silver Buttons

Five local YouTube creators were also awarded Google’s Silver Play Button for surpassing the 100k subscribers threshold.

The five include; KTN, The Real Househelps of Kawangware, musician Nyashinski , comedian Njugush and Africha Movies.

GOOGLE TO OFFER $1 MILLION DIGITAL TRAINING TO FARMERS

Google has also announced a $1 million initiative in partnership with the One Acre Fund that will provide digital skills training to more than 100,000 smallholder farmers in low-income and rural Kenya in the next year.

“The aim is to help these farmers make the most of the web for their agribusinesses so that they can increase yields and productivity. The funds will allow them to digitize operations and tasks (training, payments, crop health etc),”
