First lady Margaret Kenyatta has relaunched her Half Marathon after a two-year break but now rebranded it to The Beyond Zero Marathon.
The Beyond Zero Marathon, which was previously referred to as the First Lady Half Marathon, is aimed at curbing maternal and child mortality rates in the country.
Speaking during the launch Mrs Kenyatta said that the previous three editions of the marathon funded mobile clinics that went a long way in improving maternal healthcare.
“We have seen how the mobile clinics contribute to national and county efforts in transforming the health trajectory in communities where they serve. I stand before you filled with admiration, hope and gratitude for your tireless work in your different capacities to improve the health and well being of Kenyan families,” The First Lady said.
The First lady said the campaign will continue engaging in private/public partnerships to address maternal and child deaths in Kenya.
“Beyond Zero Marathon celebrates the exceptional synergy of Private Public Partnerships to address maternal and child deaths in Kenya. Thus, the #BeyondZero Campaign will continue to accelerate the implementation of policies and programs aimed at promoting UniversalHealthCoverage,” she said.
The First Lady launched the ‘Beyond Zero Campaign’ on 24th January 2014. The initiative also aimed at accelerating the implementation of the national plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children.
The First Lady Half Marathon ran for two years before she suspended the event due to political temperatures in 2016, ahead of the 2017 general elections.
The fourth edition of the Beyond Zero marathon will take place on March 10, 2019.
