Surgeons at KNH restore manhood of 16-year-old boy in historic surgery

A 16-year-old boy from Embu County, who had lost his manhood following an attack at his home by unknown assailants, has gotten a new lease of life after doctors at the Kenyatta National Hospital successfully reconstructed his lost manhood.

A team of Surgeons at KNH, led by Prof Stanley Khainga, successfully reattached the severed penis after a 7-hour surgery.

The victim, a form three student, was attacked In December last year by unknown assailants who broke into their home in Embu while his parents were at work in a nearby shopping center.

According to Prof Khainga, this is the first time an operation of this kind was successfully carried out in Kenya, saying it marked a milestone for surgical medicine in the region.

“Our management goal was to restore normal function, which consists of urination, or passing urine, sexual gratification, improved self or body image and reproduction. We also sought to achieve adequate aesthetic appearance or normal appearance of the organ, including length,” he said.
