Breaking news: explosions sounded in Nairobi, suspected grenade attacks

A Kenya Forum reporter says there have been two grenade attacks in Nairobi late this afternoon, one near Homeland and the other near the Thika Road mall. The initial report is that an explosion ripped through a bus heading to Githurai 45 (Ruiru). Several people are feared dead and traffic is at a standstill in the area.

UPDATE

Media reports citing officials say three people were killed and at least 62 others wounded in the two explosions on passenger buses traveling on the Thika Super Highway. Kenya’s National Disaster Operations Centre said 20 of those wounded were in a critical condition.

The buses were crowded at the time of the explosions, which police said were caused by improvised devices. A gaping hole was blown in one bus, while the doors and windows were blown out of the other.
