At least 14 passengers have died and several others left injured after a Nairobi-bound bus they were traveling in from Garissa crashed into a lorry at Matuu, along Thika-Garissa highway on Wednesday morning.

According to witness accounts, the bus was over speeding before it rammed into the stalled lorry.

The injured have been rushed to Matuu level four hospital for treatment.

The accident comes barely a week after another accident at Kikopey on the Naivasha-Nakuru highway killed all the 14 occupants of a Nissan matatu after it collided head-on with a matatu. The brakes of the lorry had reportedly failed moments before it rammed into the matatu.

The Matuu accident brings the number of people killed in road accidents in less than a week to at least 20.
