Uganda police arrest KTN journalist for distributing images. Ugandan-born KTN journalists was charged in connection to a conflict in Kasese.
Kenyans have taken to social media to condemn the arrest of KTN news anchor, Joy Doreen Biira, who was arrested by Ugandan police yesterday.
The journalist was among five other people arrested for allegedly distributing photos of the Kasese attack that left 55 people dead. According to Uganda’s Daily Monitor, Doreen Biira, a Ugandan working with one of Kenya’s top media house, was arrested together with her fiancée at her uncle’s home.
The cause of the conflict that erupted in Kasese town is presently unclear. However, political reasons for it are being considered. Kasese District is a part of the Rwenzori region, a sub-national Kingdom in Uganda. The Kingdom of Rwenzori is recognised as sub-national, operating beneath the authority of the national government.
Chaos erupted in Kasese town in Uganda when royal guards protecting King Charles Wesley Mumbere of the Rwenzori kingdom attacked patrolling security forces.
The Spokesman of Uganda Police has said that Joy Doreen Biira is safe and will be granted bond. Below are some of the tweets posted under the hashtag #FreeJoyDoreen
