Lupita was signed up for the upcoming blockbuster in June last year and is starring as Maz Kanata alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher
The director of Star Wars: Force Awakens is said to have been forced to cut most of Lupita Nyong’o scenes as he was not impressed with the Oscar winner’s performance in her role.
According to the Sun, JJ Abrams was left unconvinced by what he saw and ordered for Lupita’s dialogue to be re-recorded.
“The CGI seemed to be what Lupita struggled with, perhaps because it meant she felt less of a connection to the character,” a source told the paper.
“There was a general sense that something wasn’t working so a lot of her scenes ended up being either re-worked or cut. Unfortunately she just didn’t end up delivering.”
