Raila calls on Sports CS to resign after Harambee stars travel chaos

Cord leader Raila Odinga has called for the resignation of Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario following the incompetence showed last week, which disrupted the national team’s travel to Cape Verde for a return match in the 2018 World Cup qualification, which Harambee stars lost.

Raila, who was Speaking to the press yesterday in Kisumu after launching two motor boats to boost tourism in Lake Victoria, termed the situation ‘absurd’ and maintained that it ruined the spirit of players and football fans who ended up losing the match.

“That was a do-or-die fixture and if the ministry (Sports) had no money, the Cabinet Secretary would have gone to treasury himself to get money to allow the players travel to Cape Verde. All we needed was a draw,” he said.

He accused the ministry and Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) of negligence and also wants the later to be overhauled.

“The fixture between Harambee Stars and Cape Verde was released early enough and the Cabinet Secretary could have allocated money one month before the date having known that it was to be played in two legs,” said Raila.

After winning 2-0 against Cape Verde last week, Harambee stars were forced to travel for 22 hours to Cape Verde via a chartered plane for their return match following dramatic mismanagement issue that left FKF’s chairman Sam Nyamweya and the ministry shifting blame.

Wario is also under fire on social media where the hashtag; #ArrestWario has been trending.
