Miss World Kenya, Idah Nguma, makes it into Miss World finals

Idah Nguma, the reigning Miss World Kenya has made the country proud after she made it to the top ten finalists, during the Miss World finals held in London last night.

The 21-year-old student at the Kenyatta University beat over 100 finalists from across the world and made it to the top five in the Beach Fashion category, and top ten in the Beauty with a Purpose grouping.

BEAUTY WITH A PURPOSE

The “Beauty with a Purpose” category is one of the most significant in the competitions, where contestants are judged on the basis of their value addition to the society.

This year, for the first time ever in the Miss World competition, five beauties were declared the winners for the Beauty with a Purpose competition and Kenya’s Idah was among the five winners. The other contestants are Miss India, Miss Brazil, Miss Indonesia and Miss Guyana.

Idah, who is from Machakos County, had partnered with international charity Smile Train in her goal to have every baby born with a cleft lip in rural Kenya treated for free.

MISS SOUTH AFRICA CROWNED MISS WORLD

22-year-old Medical student, Rolene Strauss, from South Africa was crowned Miss World 2014 in the 64th annual competition, contested by women from 121 countries.

Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsar was named runner-up, while Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit, came third in the contest.
