Makers of ‘Nairobi Half Life’ return with new film: VEVE. The film is much-anticipated after the success of Nairobi Half Life.
After producing the award winning film, Nairobi Half Life, which without a doubt changed the perceptions of many Kenyans on the quality of locally produced movies, One Fine Day Films in collaboration with Ginger Ink Productions are back with their next movie, VEVE, which is set to premier next week, on the 28th of this month at the Century Cinemax, The Junction.
The movie had its world premiere at the Durban International Film Festival last month to a full cinema and it was very well received according to the producers.
As the name suggests, VEVE, Kenyan slang for Khat/Miraa makes the plot of the film whose setting is in Maua town in Eastern Kenya.
VEVE follows the lives of multiple characters trying to find themselves in a world of political intrigue, revenge, love and longings for success complemented by the background of the thriving yet unregulated veve business.
Amos, an ambitious politician, is running for another term as Maua MP whilst facing his opponent Wadu in the extension of his veve empire. His wife Esther discovers the true nature of his affairs and seeks solace in Kenzo, a conflicted young man out to seek vengeance for his father’s death. Sammy, Amos’ right hand man, has to choose between being loyal to his work and being a caring father to his 12-year-old son Kago. Maua veve Farmers want to form a union to force Amos to recieve decent prices for their veve. Clint, a hedonistic wannabe documentary filmmaker meddles too far, blind to the dangers he is putting himself and others into.
All are in search of purpose not knowing that their destinies are entwined in more ways than they can imagine.
STARRING in the film is actor and Talent Manager Lowry Denzel Odhiambo, award winning actress Lizz Njagah Konstantaras, Rugene Emo Mike and Conrad Makeni.
Will VEVE reach the bar set by Nairobi Half Life or will it just be on a level of its own? Well the Kenya Forum’s showbiz correspondent will be gracing the ‘invite only’ premier? We will keep you updated.
Worth noting is that even though the premier is by invitation only, you can watch VEVE on the same night by purchasing tickets for the concurrent Special Preview which will kick off starting 8.15pm on the same night. The tickets can be purchased directly from Junction Cinemas at Sh 500.
