2016 will go down in the history of Hollywood, as the year when celebrated actor, Leonardo Di Caprio eventually wins an Oscar.

Di Caprio, who has had five nominations since 1995, scooped the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “The Revenant” in Oscar awards 2016.

In his acceptance speech, Leonardo spoke passionately about global warming, saying that climate change is real and the most urgent threat in the world.

“Making ‘The Revenant’ was about man’s relationship to the natural world…climate change is real,” he said. “It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. “Said Di Caprio.

“I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted, “he added.

THE REVENANT

“The Revenant”, which led in Oscar nominations this year with 12, follows DiCaprio’s Hugh Glass, a fur trapper abandoned by his colleagues after he’s savagely attacked by a bear. Left for dead and double-crossed, Glass crawls his way to safety, dodging Native American warriors and fixing to take his revenge on Hardy’s John Fitzgerald, who murdered his son and conspired to take his share.

The film’s Director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, also took home an award for best direction with film also scooping the Cinematography category: Emmanuel Lubezki.

DiCaprio, now 41, was first nominated for an Oscar when he was just 19 in the film What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? back in 1993.He later , scored Oscar nominations for his roles in “The Aviator,” “Blood Diamond,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
