Kenya has been ranked as the best country in Africa and the 26th globally, in a new survey that seeks to rank Nations based on their contribution to humanity and the planet with the aim of establishing if a country is a “net creditor to mankind, a burden on the planet, or something in between.”

According to the survey titled The Good Country Index, which is the first of its kind, countries are ranked under seven main categories;

  • Science and Technology
  • Culture
  • International Peace and Security
  • World Order
  • Planet and Climate
  • Prosperity and Equality
  • Health and Wellbeing

Kenya ranks high in Planet and Climate (98 per cent), Culture (84 per cent), Science and Technology (47 per cent) World Order (48 per cent), Health and Wellbeing (28 per cent), International Peace and Security (20 percent), Prosperity and Equality (16 per cent).

Among the factors that boosted Kenya’s rank are: deploying peace-keeping troops at the Horn of Africa, hosting refugees, voluntary donations to the World Health Organization (WHO), Cyber security, contributions to international publications in science and technology, the number of UN volunteers abroad and charity.

Ireland emerged as the best country in the world with the greatest contributions to humanity and the planet.
