Kenya Prisons Volleyball Team Stranded In Egypt Over Unpaid Hotel Fees

The Kenya Prisons Service’ women’s volleyball team, currently in Egypt for the ongoing Women’s Africa Club Volleyball Championship risks being locked out of their hotel over unpaid fees.

The team, which qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament after beating Asec of Côte d’Ivoire and Uganda’s Nkumba University, had been given a deadline of up to Wednesday by close of business to clear the bill or be kicked out of the hotel.

The management of the Al-Albilla Hotel has allegedly also threatened to confiscate the passports of the entire team including two technical bench members and an administrator if the bills are not cleared.

According to sources, Kenya Prisons have only paid Sh 300,000 of the Sh1.1million outstanding.

The Prisons Service’ women’s volleyball team has allegedly not received their allowances.

Prior to the trip to Cairo, the team had also faced travel challenges after the government failed to process their air tickets on time, which saw them arrive at the tournament at the eleventh hour and in batches.

The champions are expected to play their last Group ‘D’ match against  GSP of Algeria at 6 pm.
