Gerald Langiri up for best comedy actor award in AMVCA. The AMVCA is Africa’s answer to the Oscars so this is weighty acclaim indeed.
Kenya’s new sensation in the acting fraternity, Gerald Langiri, has been nominated for “Best Actor In A Comedy” at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards 2015 (AMVCA) for his outstanding role as Joseph in the movie Fundi-Mentals by Historia films.
Fundi-Mentals is set to premiere in Kenya on 12thFebruary 2015 at the 20th Century Nairobi.
Apparently, Langiri is the only Kenyan actor to be in the nomination list of this year’s AMVCA and also the only East African in the prestigious awards that have been christened, the African Oscars.
Langiri has become a household name in the country’s acting industry within a very short period of time, thanks to his determination and prowess. He is currently featured alongside the continent’s celebrated actor, Desmond Eliot from Nigeria in the new TV series, Santalal, which premiered on Citizen TV a week ago.
However, there are five other categories in which Kenyan productions and crew have been nominated;
The Kenyan Movie, VEVE , which premiered last year in August, has been nominated in 3 different categories i.e Best Art Director, Best Indigenous Swahili and Best Video Editor.
Mama Duka by Njoki Muhoho and Almasi by Fredrick Odhiambo have been nominated under the Best Indigenous Swahili category while the XYZ Show, Shuga and Rush have all been nominated under Best TV Series Category.
Now in its third edition, The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is an initiative by AfricaMagic (DStv channel 114), in association with MultiChoice, which seeks to honour outstanding talent in film and television across Africa.
The late Tiona Wangeci, who died in a road accident, has been nominated in the Best Costume category in the TV series Rush.
